Journeyman Electrician (Traveling)

Job Summary: 

Tracy Electric, Inc. is seeking a skilled and licensed Journeyman Electrician with a solid background in industrial and commercial electrical systems. This is a travel-based position supporting projects at client facilities across multiple regions. The role focuses on the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high-speed packaging lines, automation equipment, and complex control systems within manufacturing and food/beverage processing environments. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Travel extensively (up to 75-100%) to industrial and commercial job sites nationwide to support new installations, upgrades, and maintenance of electrical systems related to bottling and canning lines 

  • Interpret and work from electrical blueprints, schematics, and layout drawings to plan and install wiring, conduit, control systems, and distribution panels 

  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical components for conveyors, fillers, cappers, labelers, and palletizers 

  • Set up and integrate control panels, PLCs, VFDs, sensors, motor controls, and safety systems for high-speed automated lines 

  • Pull wire, bend and install conduit, terminate connections, and mount devices per NEC and local code 

  • Perform testing and diagnostics for continuity, voltage, current, and resistance to verify system integrity and performance 

  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and electrical code standards 

  • Accurately document work performed, maintain job records, and communicate status updates to project managers 

  • Collaborate with mechanical teams, engineers, and vendors during commissioning and startup phases of equipment 

 

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Valid Journeyman Electrician license (state-specific; multi-state or reciprocal license a plus) 

  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in industrial/commercial electrical work, including bottling, canning, or packaging line installations 

  • Ability to supervise and mentor electrical apprentices on job sites, ensuring quality workmanship, safety compliance and skill development

  • Experience working with automated systems, PLCs, VFDs, sensors, and control panels 

  • Ability to read and interpret detailed schematics and technical drawings 

  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and time management skills 

  • OSHA 10/30 certification preferred 

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record 

 

Work Requirements:  

  • Work is performed in industrial and commercial settings, including active production facilities, warehouses, and construction sites 

  • May involve working at heights, in confined spaces, and around high-speed machinery and moving parts 

  • Requires flexibility for travel, extended stays, weekend work, and varying shift schedules based on project needs 

  • Work performed in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to hot and cold temperatures, such as inside industrial facilities, refrigerated areas, outdoor sites, and seasonal climates 

  • Ability to safely and effectively perform duties in extreme temperatures while adhering to all safety protocols
